Six days in Vegas will warp your mind. You'll forget what daylight looks like and the ringing of the fruit machines will start to haunt you. But the perfect escape is just on your doorstep...
We went all out and hired a red Ford Mustang convertible. It was totally rad. This also marked the start of baseball cap season. Unless you wrap your entire head in a scarf, the cap is essential. But so clichéd, argh!
45 minutes outside of Vegas we hit the Hoover Dam. Not literally you understand. That would have awkward. It is huge. And an incredible piece of engineering. We took the power plant tour which takes you inside the Dam where the guide reels off a whole host of interesting facts regarding it's construction. Most of which i've of course forgotten. But they were impressive at the time.
And then it was off to Sedona, Arizona, our home for two days. I wish we could have stayed here for a week and really taken advantage of the striking scenery We managed to grab glimpses of Sedona but as it's a four hour drive from the Dam, and 2 1/2 hours from the Canyon (our final destination) we often saw it in complete darkness. The upside? The stars. Wow.
We saw three tarantulas during our stay. THREE! I was not amused. Both nights we ate at a fantastic restaurant, Elote. Their signature dish - fire roasted corn with spicy mayo, lime and cojita cheese - is heavenly. You should also indulge in a prickly pear margarita, unique to Sedona and made from a local cactus.
Happy Thursday x
