Happy Halloween!

These beauts have been adorning our living room for the past few weeks. Naturally I couldn't leave all the pumpkins au naturel...a little pump-dazzling ensued with the help of some glitter and gold sharpie pens. And the bats derived from an old cereal box and some leftover black fabric paint - DIY on the cheap.

We're off to the Las Vegas Halloween Parade this costumes as yet but after five days of hitting the breakfast buffet I think we could plausibly pass as two giant doughnuts.  Happy Halloween! x

Riding the skyline

Last weekend we hired a car and headed out to the Shenandoah National Park to ride the Skyline Drive, a beautiful drive along the spine of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. In fall the scenery is spectacular with the all the colours. Unfortunately we were a bit early and the trees had only just begun to turn but it was beautiful nonetheless.

We're off to Vegas tomorrow for the week.  CANNOT WAIT!  I totally plan on joining the grannies on the penny slot machines...apparently they pump pure oxygen into the casinos to keep you awake, awesome!  Have a fab weekend all x

Guess what day it is?

American TV is LITTERED with adverts.   Incredibly annoying? Oh yes.  When watching a movie they lure you in with just a few ads at the beginning, but when you get down to the final scenes the ads can be as often as every five minutes. Argh!  There are however a few advert gems.  This one in particular has become a firm favourite in our household. And many others it seems. Happy hump day! x

Hats off to you, sir

Hat: J Crew

It seems my surroundings are starting to influence my shopping decisions.  When in Rome and all that.  As i'm still waiting on my working permit to come through (read: skint) i'm only buying items I really, really need.  Like a baseball cap.

Happy Monday x

You like to-may-toes and I like to-mah-toes

The weather has finally cooled down here.  Yes, I have been complaining about the weather, i'm British after all. But 30C in October is just crazy.  Yes, it's great to not have to worry about needing to grab a cardigan on your way out, but it's October and I want to start layering up. So this is hopefully my last summer post.

In other news, I'm continually amazed by how difficult my accent is for Americans to understand sometimes. I mean, we are speaking the same language, come on!  Case in point...tomato, water, tuna and my name.  You say either of these little words to an American and they look at you like you're mad.  Try repeating it and the situation gets worse. The only way around is to put on your best American accent and hey presto, they get it. The first time I thought they'd go from thinking I was mad to auditioning for a part on 90210.  But it works.

You like to-may-toes and I like to-mah-toes.  Take it away Ella and Louis. x

A terrarium spectacular!

I've been drooling over terrariums for a while now, and while i'm very aware i'm lagging far behind this trend quite frankly my dear, I don't give a hoot.  Terrariums, succulents, cacti...I think i'll always find you lot a little bit special.

When I finally decided to crack on with this project I was all for a succulent bonanza.  But when I arrived at the shop I was greeted with a whole host of ready-made succulent parties.  And they were cheap. Cr*p. Well cool, but cr*p, I kind  wanted to make the damn thing myself.  So I bought the succulent family, and switched to cacti, and now I have a whole team of succulents and cacti filling the apartment.  Score all round.

I was pretty happy with the results. That was until the other half got home. The Bot is one of those annoying people who always points out that little detail that i've somehow missed when i'm crafting/cooking/generally living. It grates me...especially because as soon as he says his part i'm always like, "Argh, how did that not even cross my mind?" In this case he immediately asked, "But don't they need soil to grow?". Hmm, he might have a point.  But it's been three weeks now and the cacti are still going strong...check back in three months and I may well be the proud owner of a cacti graveyard. But for now I love. x
