We decided to take it easy this weekend after the whirlwind trip back home. And on Sunday we headed 25 minutes out of DC along the Potomac river to Great Falls where the river speeds up and has a series of rapids (thanks Catty for the tip!). I'd been meaning to visit the falls for a while but the 30C + heat seriously put me off. Now the temps have cooled to a modest 25C it seemed like the perfect opportunity. My anticipated leisurely stroll turned into more of a rocky hike and I quickly regretted wearing my Primark ballet pumps. Still, not one give in we continued on and boy was it worth it. The trail took us along the banks of the river and up to highest outlook points and then we headed back through the woods where the floor was covered in a blanket of green and we were treated to the some deers and almost trod on fuzzy little caterpillar.
It's been almost two months since we moved out here and it's finally starting to feel like home. Despite it technically being "fall" since we're past Labor Day i'm desperate for the autumn to come; layers, boots, autumn colours...and my first American Halloween!!!
Peace out x
