London 2012

Whoa there, extended break, woops!  In my defence there are two extremely good reasons for my absence.

  1. The Olympics were taking place in my home town.  Queue 24 hours back-to-back sport for two whole weeks.  I'm now totally down with all the fencing lingo, I honestly believe with a bit of hard work I can get a six pack like Jess Ennis* and the Bot and I could open a shop with the amount of Team GB merchandise we indulged in.  We managed to catch Wiggo in his time trial, see Mo in his 5,000 heat, saw this man snap his pole fault, and cheered on Saudi Arabia's first female Olympic athlete.  What a fortnight, what a city. GO TEAM GB, we rocked!
  2. I'm getting married!  Oh wait, you knew that already.  I'M GETTING MARRIED IN LESS THAN 3 MONTHS. Ah, that's better.  Bit more dramatic.  Yep, the Bot and I have brought our wedding forward and are getting married on 17 November this year in Brighton.  Woop, cannot wait!  So you can see why i've been busy.  The venue is booked, dress bought, photographer on-board, florist ready and waiting, one half of one of the six bridesmaids outfits bought. Hmm, still a way to go but I can't wait!
Speaking of weddings i'm off to the lakes this weekend to see possibly the most chilled-out bride i've ever known.  Cue wellies + vintage dress +tweed.  Nice one.

Tootles xx

*Jokes, obvs.  Although I have joined the gym *hopes and prays it'll make a difference in time*

DIY: Curtain cushions

Cushions...not the most exciting craft project, i'll admit.  But these cushions have been on my to-do list for a while.

Why?  Because they are made from my gran's curtains from the 1960s and 1970s.  Vintage at it's best.

Best of all, I discovered that making cushions out of curtains rather than material saves soooooo much time because most of the edges are already hemmed.  I'm a lazy sewer (no test samples for me) so this suited me to a tee.  You can find second hand curtains at most charity shops - just make sure you give 'em a hot wash first :-)

I used these cushion inners from Ikea at £4 a pop.
This is my button box.  Every time a I buy a top/dress/coat I pop the spare button in here.  And i've never used a single one...until now.  And now it's totally justified.

Now you'll need to mark where you want your button holes to go and pop these in.  I can't give much more instruction on this because I used my AUTOMATIC BUTTONHOLE MAKER for the first time and it was the NUTS.  Pop your button in the special foot thing, line it up, press start.  And hey presto, a button hole. Amazing.

End result...some rad vintage cushions that totally justified gran keeping hold of her curtains for 50 years.

p.s. what a weekend for Team GB in the Olympics.  Three gold medals in one hour.  Get in!

Happy Monday, folks x

Going for gold

I've been well and truly swept up in Olympic fever. Can't get ENOUGH of it. And feel so proud to be British right now.

Having the Olympics on your doorstep is schweet. Plus, the roads are super quiet...all that talk about London being crazy busy and 'don't even think about driving in central London' has done the trick; getting to work has never been so easy!

On Wednesday the Bot and I headed down to Hampton Court to watch Wiggo in the time trials. The atmosphere was incredible, everyone was so patriotic; it was Union Jack-tastic. And after the race we headed down to Hampton Court Palace for a little nose around followed by a picnic in the garden. Even bumped into Jane Seymour - Henry VIII's third wife. Can you name all six, and how it all ended? This little rhyme will help you remember!

Have a fab weekend all. We're off to view a wedding venue tomorrow, fingers crossed it's a winner, and then I think we'll try and soak up a bit more Olympic fever. Off to the see the athletics next week too. Woop!Laters x

Jane Seymour. Very much alive and kicking.  She loved my floral crown.  Don't blame her.
