Heaven now comes in the form of a cupcake

The Vanilla cupcakes come in a range of sweet, pastel colours

For as long as I can remember (well, since 2004) people have raved about the Hummingbird Bakery and its deliciously moist, fluffy and sweet cupcakes.

"OMG, these are the best cupcakes in town!"
"What do you mean you HAVEN'T tried one, you're missing out!"

Yes well, until now I couldn't.  As you probably know I can't eat gluten, which rules out any kind of cake loveliness, shop bought that is (I make a delightful butternut squash & orange cupcake, but that's a different story).  And definitely ruled me out of the "in-crowd" that frequent the Hummingbird bakeries, which are now located in Portobello, South Ken and Soho.

Until now!

Oh yes my gluten-challenged friends, heaven has arrived.  We have moaned and complained about how unfair life is and finally someone has take note. It is with great pleasure that I announce that the Hummingbird bakery now has a 'Made Without' range made using gluten-free ingredients, wahooooo!*

The 'Made Without' range includes the classic Red Velvet, Vanilla, Chocolate and Carrot. Delicious.

I think the Sunday Telegraph (Little Black Book) described this delightful place perfectly:

"This is a very 'in' place where the cupcakes are as good as sex."

*please note the 'Made Without' range is made in the same bakery as the other cakes so there might be traces of gluten in the products. All images are by Benjamin C. M. Backhouse.
